You are the Universe

When you acknowledge that you and the universe are made up of the same energy, you will open yourself to limitless possibilities

The universe—and everything in it—is made of energy. At the subatomic level, everything is pure energy. Everything, without exception. The food you eat is energy. The water you drink is energy. The bed you sleep on is energy. The computer you use is energy. The screen on which you are reading this is also energy. In fact, you yourself are pure energy! And so is your spouse, your children, your parents, your boss, your pet, your friends and your neighbours. Even the people you are not particularly fond of are—at the subatomic level—made up of pure, unadulterated energy.

We—each of us—is an energy system operating in a larger energy system we call the universe. This is the fundamental truth. This means that our physical bodies and our thoughts are made up of the same energy. Knowing this, we can begin to transform our lives in ways that we have hitherto never imagined.

Our physical bodies are much denser forms of energy compared to our thoughts, which are much more subtle energy. But our thoughts, though subtle, are a more powerful form of energy because they empower us to create something out of nothing. Think about it. Before anything is built in our physical reality, it is first conceived in the mind. You would have probably seen many new flyovers on city roads. A decade ago, these flyovers did not exist. Before being manifested in the physical reality, these flyovers were conceived in the collective minds of the civic administrators, civil engineers, construction workers and many more people. So, energy works individually or collectively.

I urge you to read ‘Minding can matter’, where I briefly discuss, how all matter is, at the subatomic level, nothing but empty space and energy waves vibrating at a certain frequency. I also quoted German Physicist Max Planck’s Nobel Prize acceptance speech. It is worthwhile to repeat what he said, here: “As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear-headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research into atoms this much. There is no matter, as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the  particles of the atom to vibration. I must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter”.

Thoughts precede things

We cannot achieve in our physical reality, what we cannot conceive in our minds. All manifestation starts with thoughts. When W Clement Stone said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve,” he was sharing with us this version of the fundamental truth—that our thoughts are powerful form of energy that, when channelled effectively, could achieve astounding results. Stone was an American businessman, author, and philanthropist who advocated and practised Positive Mental Attitude [PMA].

PMA can be easily understood from the energy perspective. One of the greatest scientists ever born, and a genius in his own right, Albert Einstein declared: “Energy can neither be created, nor destroyed. It can only change its form.” Quantum physics states that energy and mass are interchangeable. The moment we understand this, limitless possibilities open up. For instance, if thoughts are energy, then thoughts can become things. Now, if our thoughts are positive, then it follows that positive events will manifest for us. The opposite is also true. Negative thoughts are equally powerful and bring about what we don’t want for us. Therefore, it is in our best interest not to dwell on what we don’t want, and instead focus on what we want.

Energy is intelligence at work

There is an all-knowing intelligence that governs the universe and all its constituents, from the infinitesimal to the infinite. This intelligence is the ultimate force behind all energy and all matter. It is flowing through me as I write these words. It is flowing to you, as you read these words. Of course, I am not talking about human intellect here. I am referring to the mysterious intelligence that makes our intellect possible. Indeed, the intelligence that I am referring to is immeasurable and beyond comprehension. Some call this intelligence the collective consciousness. Many others refer to it as the God force. Whatever name we give it, we don’t understand how it works. All we know is that it works—and in myriad of ways.

Take our physiology, for instance, which is perhaps the best example of this all-knowing intelligence at work. When we see a tempting food, our mouth automatically waters. This is because our mind prepares our body to digest food by salivating even before we take the first bite. This salivation is intelligence at work. When we eat, the process of digestion also begins involuntarily. We don’t have to think, “OK, now that I have chewed enough, my food is ready to mingle with the digestive juices, so let me start swallowing”. No! The apple that you just ate goes inside, the right amount of nutrients get extracted and sent to various parts of our body, without any conscious effort on your part. If this is not intelligence, what is?

Emotional energy

As I said earlier, our thoughts are a subtle form of energy that we can use to manifest the physical reality of our choice. The strongest of thoughts are our emotions. Not surprisingly then, it is our emotions that we must take charge of for improving the circumstances of our lives. Indeed, emotion has been described as energy-in-motion [E-motion]. Our emotions determine everything that happens in us, to us and around us. Emotions are so powerful that they can create havoc in our lives if not managed properly.

Our emotions generate energy fields that have either positive or negative effects upon our lives. Shame, guilt, anger, fear and false pride are emotions that generate negative [low] energy fields around us. These emotions often lead us to criticise, blame, judge, hide, punish, attack, hate and generally spread negative energy around us.

On the other hand, emotions such as love, happiness, compassion, and reverence create positive [high] energy fields. These emotions guide us towards acceptance, forgiveness, kindness, understanding, empathy and spread positive energy around us.

Influence of energy

We—and everything around us—are constantly emitting energy

Have you ever felt peaceful in the presence of some people? There are certain people whom everyone likes to be around. You say, perhaps unknowingly, “I like the energy of that person”. Well, you are not wrong. There are people who emit good energy. Likewise, there are people we do not want to be around for the exact opposite reason.

In an Interview with Cosmic Lighthouse, a metaphysics magazine, Dr David R Hawkins, MD, PhD, author of Power vs Force, revealed how he experimented with applied kinesiology. He found that negative energy made a person go weak while positive energy made her stronger. What’s fascinating is that the source of the energy did not have to be in physical contact with the body, just in proximity. “So, it was obvious that we were dealing with an energy field, and that somehow the human nervous system, autonomic system, was able to discern the difference,” said Dr Hawkins.

To live a happier, healthier and peaceful life, we ought to choose to surround ourselves with higher energies

Dr Hawkins has created a Scale of Consciousness. Based on scientifically researched and documented findings of a 25-year long study, he discovered that there are definable levels of consciousness on Earth ranging between one and 1000, with one being the lowest level and barely alive and 1000 representing the highest consciousness also known as Christ or Krishna Consciousness.

According to this scale, all ideas, emotions, concepts, thoughts, works of art, literature and science, resonate at some level. Energies above the level of 200, are considered nurturing, positive and “good” [Power]. Those below 200 are destructive, negative and “evil” [Force].

Energy and our being

If we understand that there is an intelligence that governs our being, which is pure energy, it is easy to understand the mysterious connections between our mind, our body and our environment. It is also easier for us to conceive and bring about changes that once seemed impossible.

For instance, we have always known that our physical appearance reflects our state of mind at all times. When we feel fear, our faces turn pale. Likewise, when we are confident, our faces glow. In other words, our physical appearance is a good barometer of our emotional state.

And we can alter our physical appearance by learning to manage our emotions better. So if you want to look attractive, you must feel happy or joyous [high energy]. Your feeling is the important factor at work here.

Using the energy paradigm

Once we understand that, at the quantum level, everything is pure energy, we can acknowledge that our universe and its events are not random.

Our relationships, for instance, affect our emotions, which can affect our health, which in turn can affect our work—if our work gets affected, we may be inadvertently transferring energies [low or high] to our colleagues, who take the same energies back to their home, and their relationships get affected, either positively or negatively.

Yes, we do not live in an isolated world. We are exchanging energies with everything around us. Our living spaces emit energies that affect us. The food we eat is also energy and it affects us. The people we interact with, as well their thoughts and emotions, are powerful energies. The news we watch on TV is energy. The books we read are energy. You get the point.

Feeling low? Dance!

That feelings affect our physical bodies is something that most of us have experienced, even though we may not be able to explain why. But the reverse is also true. Yes, by changing our physical bearings, we can change our emotions. Sounds implausible? But if everything is energy, and if thoughts can influence matter, why can’t matter influence thoughts? The good news is that it can!

Osho says that when we are feeling low, we must dance. It’s impossible to continue feeling low when we’re dancing because the act of dancing transforms all negative energy into positive energy. We dance when we’re ecstatic. Osho tells us that if we change the cause and effect equation, it still works. So, do you want to feel ecstatic? Just dance!

The next time you find yourself experiencing negative energy, inspect your own emotions as well as the energy fields surrounding you. It is up to us to choose to surround ourselves with people, things, events, spaces and ideas that raise our energy levels and not lower it.

To live a happier, healthier and peaceful life, we ought to choose to surround ourselves with higher energies. The best part is that by doing so, we also raise—intentionally or otherwise—the energies of everything and everyone around us. This may seem like an esoteric idea fit for only the evolved ascetics and not for someone like you and me. But I invite you to shed your scepticism [low energy] and try this empowering belief [high energy].

I guarantee that this new awareness is tremendously empowering and has the potential to transform your life according to your will. Happy transformation!
