Q: How important is cardiac massage for reviving a person who has suffered a heart attack?

A: Cardiac massage is an extremely important process for reviving a person who has just suffered a heart attack. If it is administered in the first 5-7 minutes it can help revive the patient and save his/her life. I know of several cases where the spouse was able to save the partner’s life with timely cardiac massage. Cardiac massage involves compressing or pumping the chest. The technique needs to be learnt before, so that it can be effectively administered. Cardiac massage should be popularised and compulsorily taught to a wider section of the population. If we look at statistics, 40 per cent of people who get heart attack die before they can reach the hospital.
