It’s almost the time of year when nearly everyone makes a New Year’s resolution to get fit and healthy. But three months after that most of those people will have abandoned their fitness goals. If you have made a New Year’s resolution to get fit before and given it up just months later, do something different this time. This year get a head start on your resolution and start working on getting fit now.
Gyms will be crowded with people starting in January but if you join now you’ll have plenty of time to get started on your fitness routine before the crowds start coming. This will allow you to get used to the equipment and your workout routine before the gyms become crowded. Gyms often have membership specials during the holidays as well, so you could save some money by signing up now instead of waiting a couple of months. (See Pay As U Gym for gyms near you).
Staying Healthy During the Holidays
Most people think it’s fine to binge during the holidays since they plan on starting a healthy diet and a workout plan after the new year starts. But you don’t have to gain weight during the holidays and then struggle all year to lose it. There are things that you can do to stay healthy during the holidays and prevent that holiday weight gain. Then you’ll be ahead of the game when January rolls around and you can work on getting fit without having to deal with those extra pounds.
If you start exercising every day, or most days of the week, you will be getting enough exercise to help offset all those extra holiday calories. That doesn’t mean that you can eat unlimited amounts of all of your favorite holiday foods. But it does mean that eating a fantastic Christmas dinner and some of the Christmas sweets you love that are only available during the holidays won’t make you gain too much weight.
That extra exercise will also help manage that holiday stress. Joining a gym will give you a place to go each day to hide from those annoying relatives that won’t leave. Just head to the gym for a workout and when you’re done you will feel physically and mentally stronger. If your are stressed from fighting holiday crowds while you complete your Christmas shopping or fight for Boxing Day bargains, a workout can help clear your mind and lower your stress level.
Save Calories Where You Can
Unfortunately, all those high fat and high calorie holiday treats can lead to weight gain. One way to mitigate that is to save calories where you can each day so that you can still have the delicious holiday specialties that you love. Skipping the pizza and take away and eating some vegetables at home means that you won’t need to feel guilty after enjoying a few Christmas cookies, eggnog, or Christmas cake. Be smart about your eating and you can still enjoy all those holiday treats in moderation. You don’t have to give up all holiday foods in order to maintain your weight. You just need to prioritize which foods are important and which ones you can do without. That way you can still enjoy the holidays and get a jump on your New Year’s resolution to lose weight and get fit.
