This is a male perspective from me.
There is a psychology behind relationships between males and females of our species.
In the 1970s, bars often had females dancing in revealing outfits. What they did was they had a good training in something called vulnerability body language. They never normally took any more clothing off than they were wearing while on stage.
This often meant revealing of breasts partially covered. This was always only a glimpse. It was very effective in the reactions of the male population of the place where they worked.
The rule being to never show the nipples of the dancer. But with body language to show themselves vulnerable.
The push buttons of the male are often visual in nature. The push bottoms of the female are often audio. This is a generalization.
So a woman baring her belly, in a skimpy halter with a supporting bra underneath was effective.
Male dancers often stripped down much further. The rule being to entertain with vaudeville skits. Often they showed off their physical abilities. And took money tips from the audiences. Restricted to an all female audience.
A dance designer friend in those days told me his dancers rehearsed long hours of the day before performing.
Men often think with their hormones. Women often look at the practical. Meaning, they look at what is in a potential relationship for me?
This appears to be universal.
The insurance companies live by the statistical data determining what any age group of women and men are likely to do. From the ages of 16 all the way to 26, men are at the mercy of their hormones.
Women are far better at controlling those hormones that men ever have thought possible. They are as a group quite capable of control much earlier than most men.
Psychology based on behaviorism is very valuable subliminally in the making of decisions of humanity.
Advertising, the placing of products on a shelf, and even the unwritten rules of clothing vary world wide.
The ideal is in any relationship appears to be whether or not it is equally balanced between the male and female.
The people deciding decisions made by average people make a whole lot of money in this world.

Sure, here’s a sarcastic critique from an anti-feminist perspective on the article you’ve shared:

---

Oh, where to begin with this delightful, incredibly enlightened piece on why women *dress to expose their skin*. A topic so deeply profound, so revolutionary, it only took the entire history of human civilization, the development of psychology, and, I don't know, the last 50 years of feminism to finally *figure out* why women wear revealing clothing. You’d think we could’ve solved world hunger with all that brainpower, but no, we’re talking about *skin exposure*.

First of all, the entire concept of “exposing skin” is presented as if it’s a grand mystery. But, of course, only someone well-versed in psychotherapy and the endless complexities of human nature would *really* understand that women’s clothing choices are a reflection of everything from mating instincts to emotional self-satisfaction. How *very* complicated. Forget about, you know, the basic fact that women wear what they like, or that clothes have become so versatile in modern times that they can serve a function beyond signaling anything about mating at all.

Let’s not kid ourselves. The article seems to think that *every* outfit is part of some deep, subconscious mating ritual. But it’s not, dear readers. Sometimes women just want to wear something comfortable, or, heaven forbid, something trendy. But no—every low neckline and cropped top now carries the weight of human evolution on its shoulders. Clearly, women can’t wear a tank top without *sending a signal* to the entire world that they’re ready to mate. It’s almost as if society hasn’t *completely* moved on from the days when women were judged by the amount of fabric on their bodies. But what do I know? It’s just common sense.

The next *brilliant* observation is that women wear revealing clothing *for themselves*. Oh, the internal conflicts, the empowerment! Women aren’t dressing for the male gaze, no no, they’re doing it because they *feel good*. Let’s just ignore the fact that body positivity and the #MyChoice movement have often been hijacked to *justify* choosing outfits that scream “look at me!” to the entire world. Of course, it’s all about self-love and self-expression. We totally ignore that a large part of modern “empowerment” might actually be linked to validating oneself in the eyes of others. Because surely, no one who wears a miniskirt *ever* worries about how many likes they’ll get on Instagram. Right? Just pure, unadulterated confidence.

Then comes the ever-classy reason: women expose their bodies for *material gain*. Ah, yes, the classic "use what you’ve got to get ahead" approach. How utterly empowering. According to this article, a woman’s assets (whether real or fabricated) can be leveraged for a promotion, an increment, or perhaps even a car! Because *nothing says empowerment* like trading sex appeal for power in the workplace. This sure isn’t the most antiquated and transactional view of femininity or anything. Oh, but don’t worry, women are fully aware of what they’re doing. After all, the article assures us that women who make these choices are “taking responsibility for their actions.” Sure, nothing says “empowered” like manipulating a man’s weakness to get ahead in your career. How progressive!

Now let’s talk about those poor souls who dress to cope with low self-esteem. Nothing screams “healthy coping mechanisms” like using your body as a billboard for validation. The article helpfully reminds us that the narrow definitions of beauty in the media are to blame for women’s psychological troubles. What a shocker! If women feel bad about themselves, it must be because they’re not *showing enough skin*. Maybe if they just expose a little more cleavage, they’ll finally feel good about themselves. Who needs therapy when you’ve got a cleavage-enhancing top, right? And don’t forget the handy “low necklines and high hemlines” trick that totally works for boosting self-esteem! Nothing like a dose of attention from the male gaze to really make a girl feel special.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more enlightening, we move on to the topic of *exhibitionism*. Yes, exhibitionism. It’s totally normal and perfectly acceptable for women to *shock* people by suddenly revealing their bodies in unexpected ways, because that’s what we all aspire to. Forget about the psychological term “perversion” that usually follows such behavior. That’s just outdated thinking. Let’s call it “empowerment,” or better yet, let’s pretend it’s just a natural desire to keep people on their toes. But of course, it’s not “exposure” when a celebrity does it, because, well, they’re being paid for it. So, really, they’re *professionals* at shock value. Just don’t ask any questions about how much of it is rooted in insecurity or a need for attention. That’s a *conversation* for another day.

Then, we have the *real* kicker—social media. Oh yes, social media is to blame for all of women’s clothing choices today. The article’s genius point is that women dress not for themselves but for the validation of strangers. The horror! Can you believe it? Women now consider how they’ll look on Instagram, how their outfit will *perform* in terms of likes and comments, and they’re under constant pressure to document their outfits for approval. It’s almost as if social media was created to *reinforce* the idea that women should always be on display, performing for an audience, anxiously counting their followers and engagement rates. But that’s fine, because this is a modern world, and nothing screams personal freedom like being beholden to an algorithm. Empowerment in 2025? Pfft, it’s just dressing for the approval of strangers, all while pretending it’s all for self-love.

Ah, but we can’t forget the Body Positivity Paradox! This one is a real gem. According to the article, the body positivity movement has *somehow* led women to feel *pressured* to show more skin to prove they love their bodies. Isn’t that just the most wonderful conundrum? I mean, let’s be real here. If women didn’t have to show skin to “prove” their body acceptance, the entire foundation of Instagram influencers, TikTok trends, and the fashion industry might crumble. But hey, no big deal. It’s not like these women are, you know, sometimes *competing* for attention, likes, and fame. That would be too simple an explanation.

But the real treasure of this piece is the conclusion. After all the social pressures, self-esteem issues, and endless discussions about body image, the article gently reminds us that *modesty isn’t determined by how much fabric covers your body*, but by *the intention and attitude* behind the clothes. That’s right. You can wear a burkha and still be immodest if your attitude is off. Perfectly logical. And what could be more empowering than forcing women into this constant battle of self-awareness and personal judgment? It’s truly liberating.

In conclusion, the *real* question here isn’t why women expose their bodies. It’s why we’ve become so obsessed with dissecting every last aspect of their clothing choices. Maybe, just maybe, women wear what they wear because it’s comfortable, trendy, or simply because they want to. But who has time for such simple explanations when we can label everything a complex psychological issue, fraught with meaning?

So, ladies, next time you put on that revealing dress or crop top, remember: It’s not just fashion. It’s a deeply psychological act, laden with layers of meaning that are begging to be explored. And if you want to show more skin? Well, that’s *definitely* a sign of body positivity. Welcome to 2025, where dressing for yourself is just as complex as dressing for everyone else.

I didn't care for your initial "Case Point" example. You referred to the daughter of a concerned mother as "dark" regarding the complexion of the daughter. First of all, a plethora of people around the world SHOULD NOT HAVE or PROCREATE OFFSPRING OR CHILDREN because the parent(s) more than likely have personal issues they need to discover and address before they can advise or share with an offspring what's best. (typical hypocrisy). Furthermore, if the child/daughter is suffering from "low self esteem", it's the responsibility of the parent (mother in this case) to discern this early on prior to the daughter becoming superfluously promiscuous. More than likely the daughter while growing up, going through various phases of adolescence/puberty, probable onset of menstrual cycle, etc., it is imperative that the mother be competently prepared to lovingly assist her female child preparing her for young "womanhood" and what to expect for males who usually do not care about anything but 'relieving themselves sexually. True pulchritude commences from the inside outward, and never cosmetically the other way about. It is also "subjective" and not "objective" The installation of a proper foundation from the mother to her daughter is essential to arm the daughter with what she will certainly be confronted with as she matures into womanhood.
In reply to <a href="https://completewellbeing.com/article/why-women-expose/#comment-40702">Nesssa</a>.

Thank you the overwhelming truth to dump on the excuses as to why females should be allowed to expose themselves. It's simply savagery in a civilized society. And refusing to respect the overwhelming effect it has on men the public.
Now they dress like prostitutes and get away with it because courts have allowed it to happen. It's dispicable. And when a man confronts them in some why, pleasant or vulgar, they are most likely to get indignant rather than except their fate for their indecent exposure, show pants tucked all the way up them on both sides. Notice how I've avoided calling where pants where stuck up.
This article appears to intend to support females animal behaviors. In the animal world they get mounted rapidly. This atical utterly fails to cover this, rather seems to blame males with using sophistry and Confaulations.
Thx for nothing writer. Your just another extrem lib.

You listed five types of exposure terms explaining why women dress revealing. Theme-specific, region-specific, culture-specific, occasion-specific, and, in your opinion, attitude-specific. You listed all except Religion-Specific. A religious person honors God, as well as themselves. A religious person understands how you present yourself is how you will be greeted. You cannot put the responsibility of self-control on another person(Men), only yourself. You can wish those revealing clothes is just about "feeling good," but the truth is that the goodness you feel is just validation. You claim that people(women) dress skimpy/sexy for self-satisfaction. Incorrect. Prostitutes and strippers dress half-naked because they are trying to attract men, and they know that men are visual. They know that a man will come running if you show some skin. If you don't want that attention, be mindful of your dress code. If you dress half naked, you'll get attention; Dress conservatively, and you get less attention. Most men moved off sexual impulses. That is their nature. We shouldn't put that full responsibility on men. Women dress how you want to be addressed. First impressions matter. How you dress speaks about you. Don't be fooled.

The idea this all has only men affected is a lie. Do parents want their children see this before they have a chance to explain this to them before they mature? This exposure from men or women is what is causing our society to deteriorate into gender confusion and perversion. Not about people’s beliefs lifestyle or being an old fart! Our society has to have a label for everyone. John T
