New Year brings the idea and hope to follow Gandhiji’s edict and “be the change you want to see in the world.” But, how do we accomplish our lofty goals and make changes that will bring about spiritual growth along with material success and lead to fulfillment?
It takes more than day-dreaming or wishful thinking. Change can happen quickly and with assurance when we practice the following guidelines for Programming and Materialising Your Goals:
- Set your goals and focus decisively on positive results. Be sure your goal is in accordance with your life’s vision and purpose and aligned to your higher principles. Include the caveat that the goal will be good for your whole life
- See the positive outcomes already accomplished. Concentrate only on the good end-result
- Have high expectations and a strong conviction. Be enthusiastic. Avoid doubts. Don’t share your goals with people who are pessimistic or jealous
- Be committed to your success. Create and implement schedules and deadlines. This is the backbone to achieve your goal
- Work on your luck. I use the equation Luck = Good Karma + Intelligent Hard Work.
We can improve our future by practicing benevolence, generosity, service to family, community, humanity and the Earth now. This includes forgiveness, compassion, selflessness, kind thoughts and good intentions.
The other side of the equation is intelligent disciplined work. Disciplined work guided by proper organisation, time management and creativity, and lubricated by good karma or entitlement to receive, is crucial to materialising goals rapidly and properly.
Hard work alone is not enough. Many people work hard but do not succeed. Benevolence and altruism are keys to financial freedom and a life of fulfilment.
Beyond a roadmap for change, people need an energy boost to clear their emotions and mind so it is easier to release old habits and develop new patterns. The following strategies hold the key to developing constancy and discipline needed to manifest your goals.
Start with Expanding Squats. This not only builds will-power, it is good for anti-aging and to spread power through your body. Place your feet at shoulder width and put your palms at the centre of your chest, fingers pointing upwards. Inhale fully. Exhale slowly as you gently bend your knees and stretch your arms out to your sides. Inhale fully as you come up and bring your hands back to the centre of your chest. Do this 20-30 times within your range of motion.
Concentrate on the top of your head and soles of your feet simultaneously. Breathe slowly and deeply for 30 seconds. You can do this daily. This is, however, not recommended for people with knee problems.
Breathe Your Way to Vitality, Clarity and Success. 10-5 Abdominal Breathing is used in yoga and marital arts to increase vitality rapidly while fostering emotional calm and mental clarity. Sit with your spine erect and your feet flat on the floor. Grounding is important for concretising change, so do not sit in padmasana or other positions with your feet facing upward.
Inhale slowly and deeply into the abdomen while counting to 10. Hold your breath for five counts. Exhale counting to 10 and hold for five counts. Do this for five minutes daily or three times weekly. Do not practice the technique if you are pregnant or have hypertension or heart ailments.
While these strategies are simple, they are powerful to give you the boost on all levels you need to make positive changes rapidly, and in any aspect of life.
