This is a very relevant article in today's times, when the media in general oversimplifies life and its challenges, causing high expectations and disappointments in adolescence. Many of us, especially in the cities, who had a lower middle class childhood are now better off and are able to give our children much more than what we had. Financial literacy does not matter when you are leading a straitened life, struggling to make ends meet. So, such parents may not think naturally about financial literacy, wealth creation, the value of long term planning and saving for another day. Some of us also want to over simplify life for our little ones--actually, even the not-so-little ones--and do not challenge them to get involved. This article should be an eye opener for them! Great job, Mr Pandit!

Every Rupee Counts - This is what should be taught to every kid. Today even a 5th std child want a mobile. Besides, this birthdays mean partys, giving expensive return gifts, joining a variety of classes, tutions, and also kinds of luxuries. Most parents give in to keep them children at the level of their peer. However, children dont even know what is happening behind the scenes - how parents are coping with the increasing financial pressures. I think it is the duty of every parent to bring to their child notice the value of the money spent.

I am a writer who is vigilant to reliase what is happening - time to wake up.
