Skipping breakfast only means adding on more calories than we would otherwise. In fact, skipping breakfast is considered nothing short of disastrous to our psychological and physiological wellbeing.

For those who think that dieting – by missing the most vital meal of the day – is good health, think again!

Doctors and nutritionists believe that omitting breakfast from the list of meals for the day could result in obesity, cardiovascular disease, and Type II diabetes.

If this was not enough to prick your bubble, the short-term effects are equally staggering. Breakfast helps the physiological action to kick-start; it also regulates metabolism. In the absence of a nutritious breakfast, the body is constantly battling dropping glucose levels, and constant cravings throughout the day, leading to an overdose of calories – leaving you feeling fatigued and lethargic.

When oil’s not well

Here’s the other consequence. Breakfast does not include binging on pastries and oily snacks first thing in the day. If anything, they aggravate fluctuating glucose levels and also increase an unhealthy number of calories. So, avoid fried stuff as well if a healthy breakfast is what you are looking for.

While there are no pre-set norms on what constitutes a good breakfast, the general concurrence among most is that fruits and cereals alongwith toast and juice would be a great way to start the day. This would not only be a wholesome start to the digestive process but it also prevents your urge to constantly satisfy hunger pangs through the day.

A healthy breakfast, to break the long route of an empty stomach through hours between dinner and sleep to waking up in the morning, would have a stabilising effect on blood glucose, which, in turn, would regulate hunger and appetite. For those looking to diet, eating a healthy breakfast is like an investment and a fixed deposit in the bank – it ensures you stay on track with your calorie intake through the rest of the day.

  2. Doctors recommend that a bowl of whole grain cereal with milk, or toast with cottage cheese or even peanut butter would do the trick. As for those in the habit of consuming eggs, an egg sandwich on the go can be just as beneficial.
  3. In fact, there are no restrictions on the healthy food that can be consumed at the breakfast table – this could range from a fruit to fruit juice, yogurt, or even a health drink.

So, make sure, before you leave the house early for work tomorrow morning, you have factored in a few precious moments for what is universally considered as the most important meal of the day.
